Who they were
Maria Anna Caiani was born at Poggio a Caiano on 2 November 1863. She opened a school for poor children, and young women gathered round her.
On 15 December 1902 she and five companions took the habit, she taking the name Maria Margherita: the beginning of the Franciscan Minims of the Sacred Heart, for the teaching of the young and the care of the sick. She died at Florence on 8 August 1921.
