Who they were
Helena Kafka was born at Brno, then in Austria-Hungary, on 1 May 1894, and grew up in Vienna. Against her parents' opposition she held to her aim of becoming a nun 'for the love of God and of people'.
As Sister Maria Restituta of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity she worked as a nurse. Arrested during the war by the enemies of the faith, she was beheaded in 1943.
