The Holy See gave the nihil obstat for her cause in 2003, and on 13 May 2004 Bishop Armindo Lopes Coelho of Porto signed the decree introducing the cause of the Servant of God Irmã Maria Rita de Jesus and set up the tribunal on her life, virtues and reputation for holiness.
