Mariano da Roccacasale

Who they were

Domenico Di Nicolantonio was born at Roccacasale on 14 January 1778 to a very poor farming family and was a shepherd until he was 23. The long hours of solitude with God led him to the Friars Minor.

As Brother Mariano, porter of the friary, he opened its door to the poor and to pilgrims and cared for them with the greatest charity. He died on 31 May 1866, the feast of Corpus Christi.

A shepherd turned friar who welcomed every poor person at the door as Christ.
