Mariano Martín Portela was a layman, born at Adanero in the province of Ávila on 21 May 1871, who married Teresa Basulto y Jiménez on 27 January 1895 and was killed near the Atocha railway station in Madrid on 12 August 1936. He was beatified on 13 December 2025 by Pope Leo XIV among the 124 martyrs of Jaén.
