Who they were
Mariano Mullerat i Soldevila was born at Santa Coloma de Queralt, Tarragona, on 24 March 1897 and studied medicine in Barcelona from 1914 to 1921. A doctor, husband and father, he loved above all to care for the poor who could not pay him and to accompany the dying, preparing them for the sacraments.
In the Spanish Civil War he kept visiting the sisters he cared for to give them courage. Killed in hatred of the faith in 1936 simply because he was a Christian, he prayed aloud to the end and urged everyone to pray.
