Italian priest and Capuchin friar (1906-1972)
Who they were
Paolo Roasenda was born in Turin on 22 May 1906. He took a doctorate in classical literature and taught for some years before entering the Capuchin novitiate at Fiuggi, where he took the name Mariano. He was ordained priest in 1945 at the age of thirty-nine.
He served as a chaplain in hospitals and prisons, a teacher and a confessor, and above all as a preacher, using radio, cinema and especially television to spread the greeting 'Pax et bonum'. He died in Rome on 27 March 1972 after a serious illness.
