Marie de Jésus Deluil-Martiny

Who they were
Marie Deluil-Martiny was born in Marseille on 28 May 1841 and was schooled from eight at the Visitation monastery. Refusing the marriage her parents proposed, she cared for them as, one after another, three sisters and her brother died.
She founded the Daughters of the Heart of Jesus. On Ash Wednesday, 27 February 1884, at La Servianne, she was murdered in hatred of religion by the convent gardener, whom she had taken in with great charity; his hatred had been fed by anarchist papers. So ended, in blood, a life closely united to the Passion of Christ.
