Who they were
Marie Lhuillier was born at Arquenay, France, in 1744 and was orphaned young. She joined the Hospitaller Sisters of the Mercy of Jesus as a lay sister, taking the name Sister Saint Monica, and humbly served the sick.
Brought before the revolutionary court at Laval, she refused to take the oath required against the laws of the Church and was put to death in June 1794. She is one of the martyrs of Laval declared Blessed by Pius XII on 19 June 1955.
