Marinus of Tarsus

Who they were

At Tarsus in Cilicia, in present-day Turkey, the passion of Saint Marinus, an old man native of Ainvarza, who was beheaded under the emperor Diocletian and the governor Lysias and whose body, by order of the prefect, was given to the wild beasts to eat.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 8 August as an aged man beheaded at Tarsus under Diocletian, whose body was given to the wild beasts.
