Mario Ghibaudo

Who they were

Mario Ghibaudo was born at Borgo San Dalmazzo, near Cuneo in Italy, on 18 January 1920, was ordained priest on 19 June 1943 and was sent as parish curate to the community of Boves. He was shot dead during the reprisal of 19 September 1943, and Pope Francis beatified him on 16 October 2022.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

He was killed by a burst of machine-gun fire as he ran to give absolution to someone who had just been shot.
