Who they were
Marius, of a distinguished Roman family, became Bishop of Avenches in 574 and later moved his see to Lausanne.
He was praised as an ideal bishop: a goldsmith who made the sacred vessels with his own hands, a protector of the poor, a man of prayer and a scholar. He died at Lausanne on 31 December 594 and was venerated there as a saint.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
