Marius, Martha, Abachum and Audifax

Who they were

Marius and his wife Martha, with their sons Audifax and Abachum, were a family of martyrs. They were arrested while honouring a group of 260 martyrs, and, refusing to sacrifice to the gods in exchange for freedom, were beheaded, under Claudius II around 270 or under Diocletian. A woman named Felicity buried them in secret.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: they have been honoured as martyrs since the early centuries; a church dedicated to them is recorded in the seventh-century pilgrims' itineraries.

Why that counted as sanctity

A whole family chose to die together rather than deny Christ, while honouring others who had died for Him.
