Who they were
Matías Morín Ramos, in the world Ioannes Raimundus, was born at Salvatierra de Tormes near Salamanca on 6 March 1913 and made temporary vows in the Hospitaller Order of St John of God on 7 March 1931. Forced against his will into the army, and unable to bear the godless talk of almost all the soldiers, he tried to desert; when his religious state was discovered he was seized near Madrid in September 1937, at the Sierra de Guadarrama, and shot, and he was beatified on 13 October 2013 by Pope Francis.

He tried to desert an army whose talk against God he could not bear, and was shot when his religious state came to light.
