Who they were
Matthias Mulumba Kalemba was a judge who became a Catholic and was baptised on 28 May 1882; he then resigned his office, fearing to harm anyone by his judgments.
Gentle and modest, he raised his children in holiness and taught the Christian faith to as many as he could. He was martyred at about fifty. He is one of the 22 martyrs of Uganda, St Charles Lwanga and companions, put to death under King Mwanga.
