Who they were
In the city of Dong Hoi in ancient An Nam, today Viet Nam, the holy martyrs John Doan Trinh Hoan, priest, and Matthew Nguyen Van Phuong, who, a father of a family and a catechist, gave hospitality to his companion in martyrdom; for their faith they were tortured together and savagely beheaded under the emperor Tu Duc.

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 26 May as a father and catechist who sheltered a priest and was beheaded with him under the emperor Tu Duc.
