Maturino Maria Pitri

Who they were

Born at Fontainebleau, he served in the revolutionary army and fell ill at Veroli in January 1799, where Simeone Cardon, who knew French, was called to him; he told the monk he wished to take the Cistercian habit, and three days later entered the abbey of Casamari as an oblate, humble and obedient, until the soldiers shot him in the entrance of the novitiate. Pope Francis beatified him with Simeone Maria Cardon and his five companions on 17 April 2021.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

The decree on martyrdom records that the soldiers' violence showed how great their hatred of the faith was.
