Who they were
Maximinus, ordained by St Agritius, succeeded him as Bishop of Trier about 332. A strenuous defender of the faith against Arianism, he sheltered St Athanasius during his exile at Trier from 336 to 338.
He refused to receive Arian envoys, helped bring about the Council of Sardica, and was condemned by name by the Arians. He died about 349 or 352.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

A bishop who sheltered St Athanasius and defended the faith.
