In the province of Asia, in present-day Turkey, Saint Maximus, martyr, who, it is recounted, gave up his spirit to God during the persecution of the emperor Decius, suffering stoning.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
