Lithuanian archbishop who died in Vladimir prison
Who they were
Youngest of eleven children of a farming family, he studied in Vilnius, St Petersburg, Leuven and Strasbourg and became apostolic administrator of the archdiocese of Vilnius; arrested by the Soviet regime, he died in 1953 in the prison at Vladimir.

Why that counted as sanctity
The archdiocese of Vilnius calls him a Servant of God and a martyr for the faith, and invites the faithful to pray for his intercession; the nulla osta was granted on 17 November 1990 and the cause opened on 14 September 1998.
