Who they were
Medardus, born at Salency about 456, gave his youth to Christian virtue and study, avoiding worldly pleasures. He was ordained and chosen, against his will, as Bishop of Vermand.
In 531 he moved his see to the safer city of Noyon, and later also took charge of Tournai. One of the most honoured bishops of his time, he died at Noyon on 8 June, about 545.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
