Mellitus Martínez Gómez was born on 10 March 1878 at Jérez del Marquesado, in the province of Granada and the diocese of Guadix.
He was killed on 18 September 1936 at the Collado de la Reina in Nacimiento, and Pope Francis beatified him on 25 March 2017 among José Álvarez-Benavides de la Torre and 114 companions, diocesan priests and lay faithful killed between 1936 and 1938.
