Who they were
At Carthage, in present-day Tunisia, Saints Lucius, Montanus, Julian, Victoricus, Victor and Donatian, martyrs, who, for the religion and faith they had learned from the teaching of Saint Cyprian, faced martyrdom under the emperor Valerian.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 23 May as one of the disciples of Saint Cyprian martyred at Carthage under Valerian.
