Nazju Falzon
Maltese writer (1813–1865)

Who they were
Ignazio (Nazju) Falzon was born of a well-known Maltese family on 1 July 1813, received the tonsure at fifteen and graduated in civil and canon law at twenty. He never practised law and, feeling unworthy, never accepted ordination to the priesthood.
A cleric, he gave himself to prayer and teaching Christian doctrine, and cared zealously for soldiers and sailors so that they might embrace the Catholic faith before going to war. He died on his 52nd birthday, 1 July 1865.
