Born at Montorio al Vomano in Abruzzo, he served for decades as a Franciscan at San Rafael del Norte in Jinotega, Nicaragua, where crowds still gather at the Templete Divina Providencia near the El Tepeyac sanctuary to remember him.

Why that counted as sanctity
The diocesan phase of his beatification cause closed in March 2022 and its 4,000 pages went to the Vatican; the Nicaraguan government later confiscated the clinic and the foundation that bear his name and expelled the vice-postulator of his cause.
