Ogasawara Gen’ya is named among the 188 martyrs of Japan beatified on 24 November 2008 by Benedict XVI. The Dicastery's list of the 188 martyrs of Japan records him as a samurai, martyred at Kumamoto in the diocese of Fukuoka on 15 October 1619.
