Otto Neururer

Who they were
Otto Neururer was born on 25 March 1882 at Piller, a mountain village in the Tyrol, the twelfth child of humble millers and farmers. Ordained in 1907, he served as curate in seven parishes and taught religion at St James's, Innsbruck, from 1917 to 1932, and then became parish priest of Götzens.
He persuaded a young Catholic woman not to enter a sham marriage with an already-married follower of the Nazi regime, and was imprisoned for it. In the camp he kept up his ministry in secret despite every hardship, until he was martyred in 1940.
