Otto of Bamberg
12th‑century German bishop and missionary, Catholic saint, mediator during the Investiture Controversy and known as the ‘Apostle of Pomerania‘

Who they were
Otto, of a noble but not wealthy Swabian family, served the Duke of Poland and then Emperor Henry IV as chancellor. Made Bishop of Bamberg in 1102, he refused consecration by a schismatic and was consecrated by the Pope in Rome in 1106.
He worked for peace in the Investiture struggle and went as a missionary to Pomerania, where many miracles were reported. He died on 30 June 1139.
