Paschasius Radbertus

Who they were

Paschasius, abandoned as a baby and raised by nuns at Soissons, became a Benedictine at Corbie and taught its young monks for many years.

Made Abbot of Corbie, he refused out of humility to be ordained priest, and later resigned to devote himself to study. He wrote commentaries on Scripture and lives of his abbots, and died about 860.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

A foundling who became a humble monk and teacher.
