Diocesan priest, parish priest of Noales, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
Pascual Araguás Guardia was born on 17 May 1899 at Pont de Claverol in the diocese of Urgell, was ordained priest in 1923, served in many parishes and in 1929 was made parish priest of Noales, where he taught the faith carefully, gave himself to prayer, cared for the sick and restored the parish church.
When the persecution broke out he took refuge with his sister, and when the militia seized him he took off his shoes on the way to his death, saying he wished to imitate the Divine Redeemer who climbed Calvary barefoot. He was beatified on 29 October 2005 by Benedict XVI, among José Tapies Sirvant and his six companions, diocesan priests killed in 1936.
