Who they were
Paul, brother of Pope Stephen II, was educated for the priesthood at the Lateran and entrusted by his brother with important affairs. He was elected pope in 757.
He built churches and an oratory of Our Lady in St Peter's, and the Liber Pontificalis praises his charity and kindness joined with firmness. He died at Rome on 28 June 767 and is venerated as a saint.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
