Pauline von Mallinckrodt

Who they were
Pauline von Mallinckrodt was born at Minden, Germany, on 3 June 1817 to a devout Catholic mother and a Protestant father, and as a girl began caring for children, the old, the sick and the poor with friends.
She founded the Sisters of Christian Charity, Daughters of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception, for the education of poor and blind children and the care of the sick. Her faith, she said, was so clear 'that I would have believed it more than my own eyes'. She died on 30 April 1881.
