Who they were
Peter Gojdič was born on 17 July 1888 at Ruské Pekľany near Prešov, son of a Greek Catholic priest. Ordained at Prešov on 27 August 1911, he taught religion and worked at the diocesan curia, and on 14 September 1926 was named apostolic administrator of the eparchy of Prešov.
As bishop, under an atheist regime he was imprisoned and suffered so much that, after atrocious tortures and a brave confession of faith, he passed to eternal life in 1960.
