In the city of Kōri in Japan, Blesseds Pedro de la Asunción, of the Order of Friars Minor, and João Baptista Machado, priests and martyrs, who, for having exercised their ministry in secret, were beheaded out of hatred for the Christian faith.

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 22 May as a Franciscan priest beheaded at Kōri in Japan for exercising his ministry in secret.
