Peregrine Laziosi
Italian saint of the Servite Order (Friar Order Servants of Mary)
Feast: 1 May (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Peregrine was born at Forlì around 1265 of the noble Laziosi family. In the uprising against the papal interdict he was among the rebels who struck and drove out St Philip Benizi, Prior General of the Servants of Mary; he then turned to God.
As a Servite friar he shone in devotion to Jesus and care for the poor. The night before his leg was to be amputated, he dragged himself to the chapter room and prayed before the crucifix; in the morning the doctor found him healed.
