Who they were
Peter Julian Eymard was born on 4 February 1811 at La Mure in the diocese of Grenoble, the last of ten children. On the day of his First Communion he resolved to become a priest, and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament marked his whole life.
Convinced that the only remedy for the spreading indifference of his age was love of Jesus in the Eucharist - 'the loss of faith comes from the loss of love' - he founded the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament. Worn out and tried in every way in his last years, he died in his home town on 1 August 1868, aged 57, remembered as 'the apostle of the Eucharist'.

Why that counted as sanctity
Eymard believed that society would be reborn when people gathered again around Christ present in the Eucharist, and gave his life to making Him adored and loved.
