Who they were

At Brielle on the Maas in Holland, the passion of the holy martyrs Nicholas Pieck, priest, and ten companions of the Order of Friars Minor and eight of the diocesan or religious clergy, who, to defend against the Calvinists the doctrine of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and the authority of the Church of Rome, suffered mockery and tortures of various kinds, completing their martyrdom by hanging.

Among those named is Saint Peter of Assche, a religious of the Order of Friars Minor.

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 9 July among the companions of Saint Nicholas Pieck, hanged at Brielle for defending the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and the authority of the Church of Rome.
