Who they were
Pey Berland, of humble birth in the Médoc, studied through the generosity of friends and became Archbishop of Bordeaux in 1430. He founded the University of Bordeaux and scholarships for poor students, and was known as a cultured and saintly prelate.
In the Hundred Years' War he tried to moderate the English king, then transferred his allegiance to France. He resigned in 1457 and died soon after, venerated by his people.
The miracles
A commission towards his beatification was appointed under Sixtus IV, but the cause lapsed.
Why that counted as sanctity
A humble archbishop devoted to education and his people.
