Philastrius

Who they were

Philastrius began his life with a great act of renunciation, became a priest and travelled through almost the whole Roman world preaching against pagans and heretics, especially Arians; he was scourged for his zeal.

He was a mainstay of the Catholics at Milan, converted many at Rome, and became Bishop of Brescia. He wrote a catalogue of heresies and died before 397.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

A travelling preacher who bore the marks of Christ for the true faith.
