Who they were

Philipp Jeningen was born at Eichstätt in Bavaria on 5 January 1642 and entered the Society of Jesus in 1663. At the Jesuit shrine of Our Lady of Schönenberg near Ellwangen in Swabia he became a very successful popular missionary, and the fame of his holiness drew pilgrims from far and wide.

For many years he preached missions throughout the surrounding country with remarkable results, and he is still remembered as the Apostle of the Ries. He died at Ellwangen on 8 February 1704.
