Who they were
Tomasa Ortiz Real was born at Bocairente, Valencia, on 12 November 1842. At her First Communion she felt Jesus calling her to religious life, but her father made her return home when she tried to enter a convent.
At Bocairente she gave herself to prayer and to helping poor children, the old and the sick. She founded the Salesian Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the education and catechesis of the poor.
