Who they were
In the territory of Mende in France, Saint Privat, bishop and martyr, who, during the invasion of the Vandals in France, was found in the crypt where he was devoting himself to fasting and prayer, and died beaten with rods for having refused to betray his sheep by sacrificing to idols.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 21 August as a bishop of Mende who died rather than betray his flock by sacrificing to idols.
