At Alexandria in Egypt, Saint Proterius, bishop, who amid a tumult of the people was cruelly killed on Holy Thursday by the Monophysites, followers of his predecessor Dioscorus.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
