Publia of Antioch

Who they were

At Antioch in Syria, commemoration of Saint Publia, who, left a widow, entered a monastery and, when the emperor Julian the Apostate passed by, singing with her virgins the verses of the psalm "The idols of the nations are silver and gold" and "Let those who make them become like them", was on the emperor's own order slapped and heavily humiliated.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: she has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers her on 9 October as a widow of Antioch who was struck and humiliated on Julian the Apostate's order for singing the psalms against idols.
