Rafael Vinagre Torres-Muñoz

Who they were

A priest born at Feria, in the province of Badajoz, on 24 October 1867, he had already lived through persecution in the Philippines, where he taught in a seminary, and under Plutarco Calles in Mexico. He was arrested on 26 July 1936 and killed later that year, and Pope Francis beatified him with Vicente Queralt Lloret and his twenty companions on 11 November 2017.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The decree on martyrdom records that he had already known persecution in the Philippines and in Mexico before being arrested and killed in Spain.
