Who they were

Raimundo Joaquín Castano González was born at Mieres in Asturias, Spain, on 20 August 1865 and baptised the same day; quick-witted and drawn to study, he was a student of the diocesan seminary of Oviedo, entered the Dominican novitiate at Corias in 1880, professed on 5 November 1881 and was ordained priest on 21 September 1889. He gave himself to preaching and to the restoration of the Dominican province of Andalusia, was prior at Jerez and professor of theology at Almagro, was sent in 1910 to Viana do Castelo to rebuild the province of Portugal, earned the title of Preacher General in 1922 while prior at Palencia, and from 1932 was vicar of the Dominican nuns of Quejana near Alava until the day of his arrest; he was beatified on 13 October 2013 by Pope Francis.

He spent fifty years preaching and rebuilding Dominican provinces, and was arrested in the convent he served as vicar.
