Who they were
Ramon Llull of Majorca, a courtier until about thirty, became a hermit and a Franciscan tertiary, burning with zeal for the conversion of the Muslim world. He founded a school for Arabic in Majorca, taught in Paris and preached in Tunis.
He was stoned to death by the Saracens at Tunis in 1315.
The miracles
The Catholic Encyclopedia records that, despite his zeal and martyrdom, he was not canonised, and that some of his teachings were condemned by Gregory XI in 1376.
Why that counted as sanctity
A missionary who died seeking the conversion of the Muslim world.
