Who they were
Robert of Turlande, of the family of the Counts of Aurillac, was a canon at Brioude, known for piety, charity, zeal and the gift of miracles.
Encouraged by Pope Benedict IX, he retired with two companions to a wooded plateau in the Auvergne, where disciples gathered and he founded the Abbey of La Chaise-Dieu in 1050; at his death in 1067 it had 300 monks.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
