Robert Drury

Who they were

Robert Drury, of a good Buckinghamshire family, was ordained at Valladolid and worked in London from 1593, respected for his learning and virtue.

He signed the loyal address of 1603 acknowledging the queen as sovereign, but under James I his conscience would not let him take the new oath of allegiance. He died a martyr at Tyburn on 26 February 1607.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

A loyal Englishman who could not in conscience take an oath against his faith.
