Who they were
Robert Nutter of Burnley, brother of the martyr John Nutter, studied at Oxford and Reims and was ordained in 1581. In the Tower in 1584 he spent forty-seven days in the pit, forty-three in irons, and was twice tortured.
Banished in 1585, he returned and was imprisoned in Newgate, the Marshalsea and Wisbech Castle. He was executed at Lancaster on 26 July 1600.
